How it works

Invoice from WhatsApp.
Submit from your dashboard.

1

Invoice from WhatsApp

Every invoice you send through TaskDrop is logged automatically — date, amount, customer, VAT status. No spreadsheets, no manual entry.

2

Log expenses as you go

Add expenses and mileage from WhatsApp or your dashboard. TaskDrop maps them to HMRC's approved expense categories automatically.

3

Connect HMRC once

Go to your dashboard, tap Connect HMRC, and authorise TaskDrop. Takes two minutes. You only do this once — your connection stays active.

4

Submit each quarter

At the end of each quarter, go to the MTD tab in your dashboard. Review your income and expenses — pre-filled from your invoicing data — and tap Submit. Done. £80 collected automatically.

🧾

Invoice income

Every paid invoice in the quarter — ex-VAT if you're VAT registered, gross if you're not. Pulled directly from your invoicing data.

💰

Business expenses

Expenses logged through TaskDrop, mapped to HMRC's approved categories — materials, travel, tools, subcontractors and more.

🚐

Mileage

Mileage logged in TaskDrop is converted to HMRC's approved monetary rate and included in your allowable expenses automatically.

📋

Prior income

Earned money before joining TaskDrop this quarter? Enter it manually in the MTD tab — TaskDrop adds it to your submission so your total is accurate.

CIS and VAT handled automatically

If you work under the Construction Industry Scheme, TaskDrop generates CIS-compliant invoices with correct deduction rates. The gross amount is used for MTD income — deductions are handled by the contractor.

If you're VAT registered, TaskDrop submits your income ex-VAT as required by HMRC for MTD ITSA. Flat Rate Scheme users are handled correctly too.

Note: MTD ITSA is separate from VAT returns. If you submit VAT quarterly you'll need to continue that separately — TaskDrop handles income tax submissions only.

Questions

FAQ

Do I need to sign up for MTD ITSA?
If you're self-employed and earning over £50,000/year you'll be automatically enrolled from August 2026 — you don't need to sign up separately. If you're under £50k, the threshold drops to £30k from April 2027. You can sign up voluntarily before that if you want to get ahead.
What if I've already been invoicing before joining TaskDrop?
Use the Prior Income entry in the MTD tab. Enter any income earned in the quarter before you joined TaskDrop and it'll be included in your submission. You don't need to re-enter old invoices.
Does TaskDrop replace my accountant?
For quarterly MTD submissions — yes. TaskDrop submits directly to HMRC using your invoicing data. You don't need an accountant for the quarterly updates. However, you may still want an accountant for your Final Declaration at the end of the year, especially if you have complex tax affairs, pension contributions, or property income.
What happens if I miss a deadline?
HMRC uses a points-based system. Each missed quarterly update earns one penalty point. At four points you receive a £200 fine, plus £200 for every subsequent missed submission. Points expire after two years of compliance. The 2026/27 soft landing means penalty points won't be issued for late submissions within one month of the deadline — but don't rely on this permanently.
How does the £80 get collected?
When you submit a quarterly return, £80 is collected via GoCardless Direct Debit from your registered bank account. You authorise a mandate once in your dashboard and it's collected automatically each time you submit. You only pay when you actually submit — never upfront, never for months you don't submit.
I'm a subcontractor — does CIS affect my MTD submission?
Your gross income (before CIS deductions) is what you report to HMRC for MTD purposes. The CIS deductions your contractor makes are credited against your tax bill — you report the gross, HMRC accounts for the deductions. TaskDrop uses the correct gross figure automatically from your CIS invoices.
Is TaskDrop HMRC-approved?
TaskDrop has received acknowledgement of HMRC production credentials for MTD ITSA. TaskDrop connects directly to HMRC's API — the same infrastructure used by QuickBooks, Xero, and other approved providers.
