The Key Difference — Card vs Open Banking
This is the most important practical difference between the two products.
mNudge uses Open Banking — powered by TrueLayer, authorised by the FCA. When a customer taps Pay Now on an mNudge invoice, they're redirected to their banking app, asked to authenticate, and the payment is sent bank-to-bank. It's technically a modern payment method, but for most customers it's unfamiliar — particularly older tradespeople's clients, landlords, and homeowners who are comfortable paying by card.
TaskDrop uses Stripe card payments — the same infrastructure behind millions of UK businesses. When a customer taps Pay Now on a TaskDrop invoice, they enter their Visa or Mastercard details on a familiar checkout page. Most people have done this hundreds of times. Completion rates are higher because there's no redirect, no bank authentication, no unfamiliar flow.
The fee difference is significant. On a £500 invoice, mNudge's free tier charges £14.50 (2.9%). TaskDrop charges £5 (1%). Over a year, a tradesperson processing £3,000/month in card payments would pay £1,044 in fees with mNudge free, compared to £360 with TaskDrop — a saving of £684/year.
To get mNudge's fee down to 1.5%, you pay £29.99/month on top. That's £360/year in subscription fees before you count the per-payment charge. TaskDrop's 1% flat fee with no subscription is still cheaper for most volume levels.
Pricing — The Honest Numbers
mNudge free tier: 2.9% per payment, unlimited invoices, 3-stage auto-chase. No monthly fee.
mNudge Pro: 1.5% per payment + £29.99/month. 5-stage auto-chase, configurable reminders.
TaskDrop: Free forever. 1% per card payment via TaskDrop Pay. No tiers, no subscription, no trial that auto-charges. Every feature is included — CIS, HMRC reminders, letter before action, annual tax summary, expense tracking, dashboard.
The only scenario where mNudge could be cheaper is if Open Banking's lower underlying processing cost (TrueLayer typically charges platforms less than Stripe's card processing fees) was fully passed on. It isn't — mNudge charges 2.9% on the free tier, which is more expensive than card processing. On the Pro tier, you pay 1.5% + £29.99/month, which only beats TaskDrop if your card payment volume is very high.
A Note on Compliance
mNudge handles personal data — customer names, addresses, phone numbers, job details — on behalf of UK tradespeople. Under UK GDPR, organisations that process personal data are required to register with the ICO (Information Commissioner's Office) unless exempt. As of May 2026, mNudge (operated by Ant vs Bear Ltd) does not appear on the ICO's public register.
TaskDrop is ICO registered: ZC122710. This is displayed on every page of the site and in our terms.
