What is TaskDrop?

TaskDrop is a WhatsApp-native invoicing and business system for UK sole trader tradespeople. It requires no app download, no login to send an invoice, and no monthly subscription. Users interact entirely through WhatsApp using button menus, typed replies, or voice notes.

TaskDrop is built and operated by Owen Moore, a UK sole trader, for UK sole traders. ICO registered: ZC122710.

How it works

When a tradesperson messages the TaskDrop number, they are presented with interactive button menus — no commands to memorise. At every step they can tap a button, type a reply, or send a voice note. TaskDrop transcribes voice notes automatically and confirms the answer before proceeding.

A typical invoice takes under 60 seconds from first tap to PDF sent.

Core features
Lead enquiry page

Each tradesperson gets their own free shareable enquiry page at taskdrop.co.uk/q/their-business-name. They share the link on their van, business cards, social media or WhatsApp status.

The page is branded with the tradesperson's business name, logo and trade, and shows a short enquiry form tailored to their trade (a gas engineer's form differs from a decorator's). When a homeowner fills it in, the enquiry arrives in the tradesperson's WhatsApp instantly and appears in their dashboard. The tradesperson can turn the enquiry straight into a quote with one tap.

The homeowner is contacting one specific business they have chosen. Their details are passed only to that tradesperson, with explicit consent recorded on submission. This is a direct contact form between a homeowner and a tradesperson they selected — TaskDrop does not sell or share these details with any other party.

Facebook & Instagram lead integration

TaskDrop connects to a tradesperson's Facebook Business Page and Instagram Business Account. When a potential customer sends a message via Facebook Messenger or Instagram DMs, or submits a Facebook Lead Ad form, TaskDrop receives it via webhook and forwards it to the tradesperson's WhatsApp as a structured alert with a one-tap quote button.

Supported sources: Facebook Messenger DMs, Instagram Business DMs, Facebook Lead Ad form submissions.

Pricing

TaskDrop is free forever for invoicing, quotes and job reports. There are no monthly fees, no subscription, no trial period, and no card required at signup.

A fair-use limit of 25 documents per month applies until the user makes their first MTD submission, after which the cap is removed permanently.

The only paid feature is MTD ITSA quarterly submission to HMRC at £80 per quarter, paid per submission (see below).

Referral programme: existing users can share a referral link. When a referred tradesperson signs up and completes their own first MTD submission, the referrer earns one free MTD submission (worth £80), applied automatically to their next submission. The reward is only granted on a genuine completed submission, so it cannot be gamed. (Becomes active once MTD submission is live in production.)

TaskDrop Pay

TaskDrop Pay means every invoice automatically shows the tradesperson's own bank details (sort code, account number, account name and a payment reference) so the customer can pay them directly by bank transfer.

TaskDrop is never in the payment flow. The customer pays the tradesperson directly from their own banking app — there is no card processing, no payment intermediary, and no fee. When the customer marks the invoice as received, the tradesperson gets a WhatsApp prompt to confirm payment, which records the income for their tax records.

TaskDrop Pay is free and active on every invoice automatically. Because payment is by direct bank transfer, there are no card-network chargebacks.

Making Tax Digital (MTD ITSA)

TaskDrop supports Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD ITSA). The submission feature connects directly to HMRC's API via OAuth. Quarterly income and expense figures are pre-filled from the user's TaskDrop records, reviewed, and submitted in one tap from the dashboard.

MTD ITSA submission is built and sandbox-tested. TaskDrop is working towards HMRC recognised status — production credentials have been applied for.

Cost: £80 per quarterly submission. Each submission is paid for individually as a one-off bank payment, authorised by the tradesperson via GoCardless Instant Bank Pay (open banking) at the point they approve that submission. There is no Direct Debit, no stored mandate, and no recurring charge — the tradesperson only pays when they choose to submit.

First MTD quarterly deadline: 7 August 2026 (Q1: 6 April – 5 July 2026) for sole traders earning over £50,000.
